Introducing ...

Crystal Guardian

I drew the design for this "doll" a few years ago ... and let it gestate in the back of my mind until I "happened" to notice the effect of one of my polymer clay faces resting on a heart shape ... is it a heart with a face ... an Angel or a Crystal Guardian instead??

Originally, I planned to create an Angel ... but, the name "Crystal Guardian" came to me instead when I added the crystal chips to the fringe.

I have created Crystal Guardian in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple!!

Introducing ...

"Henry"

He is my next Animal Totem to make an appearance!!!

I have named him Henry as his silhouette reminded me of King Henry VIII

Turtles are often seen as a symbol representing Mother Earth.

I like the fact that turtles are able to carry their homes with them wherever they go ... and it reminds me that I am also connected to my "home" wherever I find myself ... all I need to do it is to stop, ground, breathe and find my centre ... and I am there.

Watching a female Turtle coming onto the beach to lay her eggs reminds me of slow and steady progress towards ones goals ...

... and when Turtle is swimming there is a sense of freedom, agility and grace.

Introducing "Green Man"

Welcome to my second "WhimsiGuy" ... The Green Man!!

In general The Green Man represents the cycle of growth in spring.

He is usually depicted as a sculpture or drawing of a masculine face that is composed of foilage, with branches, vines, leaves, fruit or flowers growing out of his eyes, nostrils, or mouth.

His features have lent themselves beautifully to being backstitched!!

... and as a mini wallhanging, the centrepiece is 12x12cm and 27cm with the beads.

Close Up of Green Man's face, showing bead embellishments.

Checking In

Hi Everyone,

I am happy to say that I am past the "worst" of the cancer treatment ... and that I am slowly, but surely regaining my strength and energy!!

I lot has been happening over the last few months and there is still more good things to come.

I have been creating Custom Dolls - not just the small wearable ones, but larger versions that you can hold in your hands, use in meditation or altar work.

This year I have also designed quite a few new WhimsiGals as well as my first WhimsiGuy - Pan: Greek God of Flock and Field

He is creating quite a buzz wherever he goes!!!

I have also begun creating some more Totem Animals too ...

"Seahorse"

I have plans to create Turtle, Dolphin, Fish, Eagle just to start with!!

Creative Irons in the Fire

Hiya Everyone, it has been a few weeks since I checked in with you!!!

I have started the second stage of my chemotherapy - 12 weeks of Paclitaxel - six down ... and six more to go, woohoo!!

One of the side effects of this particular medication is peripheral neuropathy (damage to the nerve endings in my fingers and toes) which may or may not be reversible ... so, the last couple of weeks have been interesting getting used to "numb" fingertips and toes!

But, despite this I have found that I can still use them - Blessed Be!

I signed up for Jane Davenport's "Supplies Me" online course which is proving to be a lot of creative fun!!

... I also created a new WhimsiGal named "Fleur"

... and the most exciting news yet, I will be having a site at this year's Art Bazaar held in Civic Park, Newcastle NSW on the 3rd of December ... Holy Cow, I need to get cracking on some new ideas, so that I have lots to show off!!

Belly Dancer and Shrine Doll

I am feeling really nourished creatively this afternoon ... as I have been able to sit down and work on some WhimsiGals!!!

This is a major acheivement ... as I have not been able to use my left arm post surgery for very long before it would tire out!!

So today I have completed two of my latest Belly Dancer dolls - yay!
(LOL ... well I made the prototype in April this year)

Top stitching the legs and belly

These are the prototypes for the Belly Dancer doll ... she is a little cheeky with an "actual" backside ... but no breasts like my other dolls.

What do you think of her?

I am planning on making a few in some other colourways ...

What do you think about a Belly Dancer bottle green?

I have also been working on some Beaded Faces ... I am so glad that my hands still know how to bead!!

Shrine Doll

I am also thinking about making some Shrine Dolls for sale ... I initially designed it to represent my "Hero" game piece when I participated in Barb Kobe's "Creative Journey" game a few years ago.

Ideas For My Sketchbook

I just had my 3rd round of chemotherapy yesterday, so I am starting to feel a little unwell ... But this won't stop me from thinking about my Sketchbook theme and what I am going to express in my journal.

I am thinking something along the lines of the "personalities" ... that I explored last year using Nic Hohn's method (check out the labels section on the left sidebar) ... Maybe Zentangles .... hmmm

When I studied print making, our art teacher said we usually come up with around ten ideas before we find the one we will develop ...

I still have another eight to brainstorm!!
